Includes benchmark assessment to determine child’s reading level and a letter assessment (if appropriate)
Typically lasts 30-60 minutes
A typical one hour session includes:
- Practice a decoding strategy
- Practice Key Words (Key words are also known as sight word development. Students learn key words from their new stories each session.)
- Read a new story
- Write about the story
*During reading and writing, Katie uses Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives to reinforce comprehension and guide students to think more critically about the story or characters.
- Play a game or do a fun activity (time permitting)
Hours of instruction:
9am to 2pm Monday thru Friday
*Katie recommends a minimum of 2 sessions per week for adequate application of the decoding strategies she teaches. More frequent sessions will accelerate the student’s progress.
